Mahamahopadhyaya Dr. Pullela Sri Ramachandrudu selected
for Telugu Bharathi Puraskaramu-2011
Mahamahopadhyaya Dr. Pullela Sri Ramachandrudu, an authority on almost all the branches of Sanskrit and Indian philosophy and former Professor Emeritus, Department of Sanskrit, Osmania University, has been selected for the prestigious Telugu Bharathi Puraskaramu, given annually by the C P Brown Academy, for the year 2011.
The 12-member jury, comprising distinguished personalities from different genre of Telugu literature that has been specially constituted for the selection of candidate for this year’s “Puraskaramu”, said that Pullela Sri Ramachandrudu’s profundity in Sanskrit vyakarana, vedanta and all the allied sastras, his exposure to English and Hindi literatures and ancient Indian history made him a man of multidimensional scholarship.
He enriched Telugu literature by writing commentaries on important Sanskrit works running to 40, of which mention may be made of Alankara Sastra—Kavyalankara, Kavyadarsa, Kavyaprakasa, Dhvanyaloka Locana, Kavyameemamsa, Vakroktijivita, etc.—word-to-word meaning and tatparya of Valmiki Ramayana (10 volumes), commentary on Brahmasutra Bhashya and Geetha Bhashya of Sri Sankaracharya. He has published more than 120 books in Sanskrit, Telugu and English languages. As a teacher, he rendered relentless service to propagate Sanskrit and Telugu languages.
The Puraskaramu, consisting of Rs. 2.5 lakhs in cash, a gold medal and a citation, shall be presented to Dr. P Sri Ramachandrudu, at a function to be organized in April by the
C P Brown Academy.
